As we celebrate 20 years, here's our progress. In school year 2016-17, 65 nonprofits operate 118 schools that educate students living in every ward in the city, up from three schools in 1996.

The DC public charter schools are public and tuition-free, open to all students, and they do not have selective entrance requirements. They offer District families a wide variety of quality educational choices.

Today, the District of Columbia has released its School Equity Reports for the 2015-16 school year. Reporting on several measures of school equity including, but not limited to, enrollment, discipline, and student achievement, the Equity Reports give schools, families, and communities transparent and comparable information across public schools in the District. Every District of Columbia Public School and public charter school has an Equity Report, and each report shows individual school data in comparison to the citywide average.

School Equity Reports display a three-year trend of public school students, DCPS and public charter schools, consistently doing better overall.

The annual EdFEST is this Saturday, December 10, 2016 at the DC Armory. (2001 East Capitol).
