“This is the first time we’ve held an event focused entirely on DC PCSB’s policies,” said DC PCSB Executive Director Dr. Michelle Walker-Davis. “It’s great to be face-to-face, talking about the issues that matter most to our sector, your schools, and ultimately, our students.”
The Policy Summit is a key part of DC PCSB’s three-year Strategic Roadmap, which focuses on Excellent Schools, Enduring Partnerships, and an Effective Organization.
Participants engaged directly with DC PCSB policy owners to discuss three critical policies at different stages of development:
Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A) Policy
Attendance and Truancy Policy
Enrollment Ceiling Increase (ECI) Policy, proposed to be renamed the Expansion Policy
“Today is your chance to weigh in,” Dr. Walker-Davis emphasized. “At DC PCSB, our goal isn’t just to have policies, it’s to make good ones: policies grounded in evidence, shaped by the people they affect, and aligned with our shared vision for excellent schools and enduring partnerships.”
The Policy Summit’s interactive format reflected DC PCSB’s ongoing commitment to transparency, collaboration, and continuous improvement. As DC PCSB continues refining its policies, collaboration with school leaders will remain central to building a stronger sector for all students in the District of Columbia.
Dr. Walker-Davis reminded participants that they will receive regular updates about the policy changes in the Wednesday Bulletin, our weekly newsletter to public charter schools. She invited them to join the “Policy Working Groups” that will be convened to gather input. There will also be public hearings held for each proposed policy followed by a public comment period, and the Board will vote on each policy. The proposed policy changes will also be further discussed at the Winter Charter Leaders Meeting.
