When a parent/guardian or community member has a complaint against a school, it is essential that they first contact the individual charter school leader/principal and, if necessary, the school’s Board of Trustees, to address their concerns directly through the school’s established grievance process. Should the issue remain unresolved or inadequately addressed, the complainant can then reach out to DC PCSB. Our primary goal upon receiving such a complaint is to ensure that the school has (a) followed its own complaint process to address the person’s grievance, (b) remained in compliance with its charter agreement, and (c) not violated any applicable laws.
Annual reports provide insight into each public charter school’s academic offerings, parent engagement efforts, student outcomes, and relevant data, and more. Created for a variety of stakeholders, these annual reports give public charter schools the opportunity to elaborate on the merits of their programs. Every public charter school Local Education Agency (or LEA) is required to create and submit an annual report to the DC Public Charter School Board annually. View current and past reports below.
For parents, the attendance and discipline performance of their child's school is important. Each day, we collaborate with our public charter schools to incorporate common-sense policies aimed at increasing attendance and improving discipline across the school districts. Transparency is our most important tool: We share information among schools to encourage better performance, and, in turn, we provide more information to parents and students.
DC PCSB approved ASPIRE, our academic accountability system. Read more about it here.
DC PCSB’s Performance Management Framework (or PMF) is used to produce the annual School Quality Report for each public charter school for which it provides oversight. DC PCSB uses the tool to review each school’s academic performance annually. Families can use the individual schools' report to find out how it is performing and use it as a resource when selecting a new school.
