New Date for School Nurse Transition Community Forum: Oct. 17
The next community forum to hear about changes to the school health program will be held on October 17 (not Oct.12 as previously advertised) at Thurgood Marshall Academy PCS (2427 Martin Luther King, Jr. Ave, SE) in the multipurpose room. The forum will be from 6:00 PM-8:00 PM. This is an opportunity for families and schools to hear about the school nurse program which will change after January 1. Most schools with a nurse will have a minimum of 20 hours per week of nursing service, requiring school-based staff to take on more basic first aid and medication administration responsibilities. Many schools will receive additional part-time resources in the form of a “Health Paraprofessional”. All schools, even those without a nurse, will receive support from a “Community Navigator”. Please encourage parents to come out to hear about the new school health program. Here are letters to send to parents in English and Spanish along with the updated school health program presentation given by DOH.
