The DC Council Officially Recognizes National Charter Schools Week

DC City Council, National Charter Schools Week, DC Charter School Board

Today, Councilmember Grosso presented a ceremonial resolution commemorating National Charter Schools Week in DC to students from Richard Wright PCS. The students presented each Councilmember a plaque for their support of public charter schools. Councilmembers Mendelson and Grosso both remarked that it was unique for the Council to receive honors. We would like to thank the members of the DC Council for their recognition in this the 21st year of public charter schools in DC. During that time, we have seen enrollment grow from a few hundred students to over 41,000.

We have come a long way and continue to see more families choosing public charter schools. Most importantly, thanks to the oversight of our Board and the great work of our schools, the number of students attending Tier 1 schools is at an all-time high. We are proud that there are more than 40 high performing, high quality schools and we continue to improve the quality of our schools.

It is heartening that this Council recognizes the strong work of public charter schools and we thank each of them for their commitment to ensuring that each student receives a quality education.
