School Safety Town Hall Statement from Dr. Michelle Walker-Davis, Executive Director of the DC Public Charter School Board
WASHINGTON, DC — The Executive Director of the DC Public Charter School Board, Dr. Michelle J. Walker-Davis, issued the following statement about the Public Charter School Safety Town Hall held this evening for DC Public Charter School families:
“Tonight’s Public Charter School Safety Town Hall is about reaffirming our shared commitment to ensuring every student feels safe, supported, and able to thrive. We know families are concerned, especially given recent events, and we believe clarity and transparency are essential. That’s why we are coming together with key partners, including the Deputy Mayor of Education and the Metropolitan Police Department, to listen, share information, and strengthen the partnerships that keep our schools and communities safe.
“We are also grateful to our families for voicing their concerns and helping to guide this conversation. Their input is vital, and their voices will continue to shape the solutions we develop. Safety is not the responsibility of schools alone; it requires the collective effort of families, school leaders, government partners, and the broader community. Together, we can build safe, welcoming schools where every child has the opportunity to learn and thrive.”
