The DC Public Charter School Board released the 2016 Charter Application Guidelines for any individual or group seeking to open a public charter school in the District of Columbia today.  The guidelines outline the required steps applicants must complete to open or convert a traditional, parochial or private school to a public charter school.

Applicants interested in opening a school in fall 2017 should carefully read the 2016 Charter Application Guidelines and the School Reform Act. Groups submitting an application on or before September 11 should use the 2015 Guidelines available here.

Each charter school proposal will be available on our website after the deadline. The public will have an opportunity to comment on each proposal at community meetings hosted by PCSB, in writing, or in-person at the public hearing.

Each charter school proposal includes: PCSB staff reviewing each application, conducting a capacity interview and public hearing, and, if applicable, visiting existing programs or schools run by the applicant group.

Applicant groups interested in submitting a proposal should contact Mikayla Lytton, Manager of Finance, Analysis and Strategy, at [email protected] or (202) 328-5545.
