KIPP DC - Promise Academy PCS was recognized by U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos as one of the 349 National Blue Ribbon Schools for 2018. This recognition is based on a school’s overall academic performance or progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups. Each school is honored in one of the two performance categories: exemplary high performing schools or exemplary achievement gap closing schools.

This award affirms the due diligence that educators, families, and communities encompass to create a safe school space where students learn to master difficult yet engaging content. Now in its 36th year, the National Blue Ribbon Schools Program has recognized more than 8,800 schools. This year, on November 7 and 8, the Secretary and the Department of Education will celebrate with 300 public and 49 private school honorees at an award ceremony in DC.

“There is not a team or a group of students more deserving of this award.  Each and every student who walks through our doors feels special, challenged, cared for, and happy." said Principal Erin Huseby. "Our staff’s hard work year after year has resulted in incredible achievements for our kids. I am so proud that Promise is not only one of the best schools in Washington D.C., but one of the best schools in the country.”

CEO Susan Schaffeler was very #DCcharterPROUD of the school's achievement. “I am exceptionally proud that KIPP DC Promise Academy students are achieving at levels that rival the city’s most affluent schools," said Schaffeler. "This national recognition highlights what our school community already knows well, we we have some of the brightest students and hardest working teachers in the nation at KIPP DC.”

More infromation about their fantastic accomplisment is available on KIPP DC's website.
