How Did DC Public Charter Schools Celebrate Thanksgiving?

December 2, 2025

As the Thanksgiving season swept through DC, public charter schools found countless ways to celebrate. From community feasts to thoughtful expressions of gratitude, students and staff came together to honor the holiday in meaningful ways.

The community at Meridian PCS indulged in their “Family Fall Feast,” where they played games and engaged in memorable conversation, emphasizing why they are all grateful for one another. It warmed the hearts of their close-knit community.

It’s the season of giving, and KIPP DC Legacy College Preparatory made a major impact. With the support of the Washington Nationals, they handed out 250 turkeys and meal kits. Their youngest volunteer assisted with distributing turkeys with a bright smile.

The scholars at The Carlos Rosario School banded together to make a difference as well. Harvard Street Student Government representatives gave a helping hand with holiday food distribution to support families in their community and help spread holiday cheer.

Which side is the best at the Thanksgiving table? The young scholars at Friendship PCS Southeast had some opinions. To bring in the holiday, they provided their hot takes on a question that’s sure to ruffle some feathers: Macaroni and Cheese or Sweet Potatoes?

Taking time to reflect on gratitude is a beautiful part of the holiday season. At Center City PCS Petworth, students and staff created a “thankful tree” during their Thanksgiving dinner, adding notes about the people and moments they appreciate.

We hope you enjoyed seeing all of the different ways DC public charter schools began observing the holiday season. We’re excited to see and highlight the continued holiday spirit, so make sure to follow us on all platforms to keep up!
