Dwight Davis’s tenure on the Board has come to a close. While he steps away from this role, he will remain an integral part of the education of scholars in the District. As he discussed his tenure on the Board, what stood out most was his appreciation for the partnership with his colleagues
“Serving on the DC Public Charter School Board has been an incredible honor. I’ve met extraordinary educators and leaders who pour love and innovation into their schools every day. The PCSB staff and my fellow board members have been thoughtful, responsive, and inspiring partners. As we face tough decisions ahead, let’s remember: ‘It will never get easier… You handle hard better’ (Kara Lawson). DC’s charter sector is full of brilliance and heart. The moment is hard—but I believe we’re built for it, together.”
Members of the Board praised Board Member Davis for the value he brought to the team. Board Chair Shantelle Wright applauded him for his student-centered approach.
“Dwight, while your time with us was brief, your contributions have been invaluable. You always centered what matters most: students. We are grateful for your thoughtful voice and your unwavering commitment.”
Executive Director Dr. Michelle Walker-Davis reminded everyone of the importance of the person behind the work:
“Dwight, thank you. We wish you all the best as you return to school-based work—you’re exactly the kind of person our students need.”
His time on the Board will sunset on June 30, but Board Member Davis plans to continue his impact of making schools in DC a place where scholars can thrive as he steps into a new role as a school leader.
