DC CAPE Results Show Strong Progress Across Public Charter Schools

August 21, 2025

The 2025 DC CAPE (Comprehensive Assessments of Progress in Education) results are in, and the data tell a powerful story of progress across our sector, driven by the hard work of students, teachers, families, and school leaders who are committed to ensuring every child in DC has access to a quality education.

In English Language Arts (ELA), proficiency increased across all grade bands and most student groups, with high schools seeing the largest gains. Two-thirds of public charter schools improved their ELA proficiency rates, and several schools achieved double-digit growth.

Some campuses improved by as much as 30 percentage points. Math results were also encouraging. Seventy percent of schools improved their proficiency rates, with the highest increase topping 24 percentage points, and several schools achieved double-digit growth, including: Early Childhood Academy PCS, Friendship PCS-Chamberlain, Mundo Verde PCS-Calle Ocho,  and Washington Latin PCS – Upper School. More than half of schools improved proficiency in both ELA and math, showing broad-based growth across the sector. View more HERE.

These gains didn’t happen by accident. They reflect the thoughtful strategies schools are putting into action every day such as:

  • Strengthening core instruction
  • Providing targeted supports where students need them most
  • Expanding enrichment opportunities from athletics to arts to leadership
  • Using data to make real-time instructional adjustments

Of course, there’s still work to do. That’s where our ASPIRE academic accountability system comes in. ASPIRE will serve as our guide, helping schools identify bright spots and areas for continued focus and improvement. ASPIRE gives us the tools to evaluate progress and hold ourselves accountable for ensuring every student has the opportunity to thrive.

As we celebrate these results, we want to recognize the vision, commitment, and dedication of our school leaders, their Board of Trustees and teachers. The progress we see today reflects what’s possible when schools and communities partner for student success. We look forward to building on this momentum because every child in the District deserves the chance to reach their full potential.
