Student Enrollment

The number of students enrolled in public schools in the District of Columbia increased for the tenth consecutive year, reaching 92,994, according to preliminary data released by the Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE).

Highlights

  • There are 43,958 PK-12 and adult students enrolled in public charter schools in the 2018-19 school year.
  • More students are attending Tier 1 public charter schools, to 20,717 (47.3%) this year from 17,477 (42.1%) last year.
  • Our focus on ensuring every child attends a quality school resulted in 1,080 fewer seats in the charter sector this school year due to school and grade closures last year at five public charter schools.
