PCSB and DC public charters will celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day with service projects and educational events. Schools throughout the city will volunteer by feeding the homeless to beautifying the District's parks.
The parent engagement team at Thurgood Marshall Academy PCS will partner with We Feed Our People to distribute food and clothes to the homeless. They will also host their annual MLK Scholarship Application day for 12th grade students. Volunteers work one-on-one with students on their college applications and scholarship essays.
Cesar Chavez PCS for Public Policy will partner with Georgetown's Center for Social Justice Research, Teaching, and Service to complete service projects at Chavez's Parkside campus and throughout the Ward 7 community. Following the service activities, volunteers will reflect on Dr. King's legacy.
Following tradition, Capital City PCS will host their annual Dr. Martin Luther King Birthday Celebration. Students and staff will perform spoken word, read parts of Dr. King's speech and sing.
Community Academy PCS' Amos 5 campus will hold a cultural assembly called "Making the Dream...a Reality" in honoring Dr. King. The program will be put on by the Amos 5 Early Childhood Students who will offer songs, poems and art dedicated to Dr. King's life and in celebration of his many contributions. The assembly will be held in the Eckstine-Ellington Theatre at Amos 5 on Tuesday, January 20 at 2 pm.
Other public charter schools are organizing beautification service projects. More than 150 volunteers from Public Allies and Mission Continues will join forces with Democracy Prep Congress Heights PCS to make the school's campus a beautiful learning environment for its scholars.
And PCSB will partner with Student Conservation Association to remove invasive plant species, clean up trash and debris and plant trees in Anacostia Park.
Together PCSB and DC public charter schools will work hard on MLK Day of Service to make the District a better place.

PCSB will be closed in commemoration of Dr. Martin Luther King Day. DC Public Charter Schools and PCSB will celebrate the day by serving others.
