For more than 43 years Carlos Rosario International Public Charter School has transformed the lives of tens of thousands of immigrants by investing in and supporting their journeys to achieve the American Dream. In response to the increased demand, Carlos Rosario PCS opened a state-of-the-art workforce development campus in Ward 5, in Eckington, a neighborhood in northeast Washington, DC.

The Sonia Gutierrez Campus, named after the School’s President and Founder, will expand its workforce development programs and seek to meet the demands of growing industries such as culinary arts, information technology and healthcare.

“The Carlos Rosario School community is more than a school; it is a movement that brings together passion, perseverance and hard work on behalf of those who may not have all the resources to be successful – who do not have a voice,” said Dr. Jorge Delgado, Principal. “I am humbled to lead a hard-working and dedicated team committed to success at the new Sonia Gutierrez Campus.”

The Sonia Gutierrez campus offers comprehensive support services and hands-on training that seeks to strengthen employability and overall on-the-job success for more than 500 enrolled students. The new building gives us the opportunity to expand our academic offerings and student resources. Courses include Nurse Aide Training, Culinary Arts Fundamentals and Advanced Culinary Arts, Computer Support Specialist, advanced ESL classes, and GED.

Classrooms are equipped with state-of-the-art technology, including interactive Promethean boards and 200 computers to support learning. A resource center in the facility offers supportive services like employment specialists and bilingual student life counselors as well as a print resource collection with 1,800 items.

The School’s holistic education model benefits the entire community by training a competent, culturally diverse workforce. The education students receive will allow them to become invested, productive citizens and members of American society that give back to family and community.
