2026 Charter School Summer Offerings and Programs

May 11, 2026

Summer programming across public charter schools is robust, with a strong mix of academic support, enrichment, and career-focused opportunities. 218 summer programs are being offered across 53 public charter LEAs, reflecting a strong sector-wide commitment to summer learning.

Academic learning is the primary focus. Many programs help students build skills, stay on track, or catch up, including support for students with specialized learning needs and options like credit recovery, tutoring, and GED preparation.

Enrichment is also a key part of the summer experience. Students can participate in camps and programs that explore sports, arts, STEM, and other hands-on activities that keep learning engaging and fun.

Schools are also expanding programs that support transitions and career readiness. Bridge programs help students move between key grade levels, while youth employment initiatives connect them to real-world work experience.

For example, Friendship PCS is offering a mix of academic and career-connected summer programming across multiple campuses in 2026.

Their summer offerings include:

  • Credit recovery and academic support programs for both middle and high school students
  • Bridge programs supporting key grade transitions, particularly grade 9
  • Career and technical education (CTE) enrichment, providing exposure to real-world skills and career pathways

DC Prep PCS is offering robust summer programming for elementary and middle school students, with a strong emphasis on both academic acceleration and enrichment.

Key features include:

  • Structured academic blocks in reading and math
  • Enrichment activities such as arts, physical activity, and hands-on learning
  • Programs designed for younger learners, expanding access to early-grade summer opportunities

Summer programs typically begin in the middle of June, though some don’t start until July. Each public charter school offers its own opportunities, and each has its own enrollment dates and activity mix. Overall, public charter schools offer a balanced approach to keeping students learning, exploring, and preparing for what’s next. Check out your school’s website or reach out to school staff for specific information about its offered programs.
